December 2009

Here it is less than two weeks before my grandbaby is due and less than three weeks before Christmas. Hardly seems possible that it is this time of year again. I always heard that time flew the older you got and now I know what they mean.

We had our first significant snow today. It is heavy and wet though so I don't think it will be around long as they are already calling for rain on Thursday. San, her fiance Andrew and Andrew's Mom Joan were over yesterday to help decorate the tree and the house for Christmas. We had a good time decorating, eating and playing some cards. They stayed all night and left today. I had made lasagna and a carrot cake/cheesecake for dessert. I always send leftovers home with San and Andrew. Well, I meant to send some lasagna and cake and keep some cake and lasagna for Ralph and I. Lo and behold, when I went to the fridge to get the lasagna out to heat up for our supper all I found was cake. I had given both containers of lasagna to San and I had both containers of cake :-)

Oh well, Ralph and I just had to find something else for supper and San and Andrew will have to suffer because they got no leftover dessert :-)

The picture at the top of the blog is my tree this year and here is some pics of the outside of the house today and the tree we decorated yesterday. Take care everyone, I'll check back in soon.

Almost December

Well here it is, Sunday, November 29th. Ralph is putting up some of the outside Christmas lights today and I am doing some of the inside decorating. Opening the boxes I just could not believe that I was opening them again. It could not be a YEAR since I opened them last. Last year this time I was so hoping to hear that I would be a grandmother and now here I am three weeks away from that. Last year this time I did not know that San would be getting married and here we are, eight months away from that.

I have always heard that the older we get the faster time goes but I really did not believe that. Now I know that it is certainly true. I wonder why? If any of you have any idea as to why you think it happens I would appreciate you putting it in the comments section here.

Weather has been great for this time of year, but you all know that as it has been the same for you. I just hit my close window button by mistake (I was trying to shut down ITunes) and I wiped out everything on here before I had hit "post". I was doing a little bit of swearing but when I got back in here I was pleasantly surprised to find that the program had saved this posting as a draft.

I will be leaving for Toronto in three weeks. Either to spend Christmas with Ralph, Joe, Trish and my new grandchild or Ralph, Joe and I will spend it sitting looking at Trish waiting for her to yell "It's time!" :-)

Nannie's gut feeling (that would be me), is that I am going to be there for the birth and that I will be having a grandson. Don't know why I say that and I can certainly be proved wrong and if I am I will proclaim it on this site for sure. So stayed tuned. As soon as the great event takes place I will update this site. In the meantime everyone please have a great Christmas with your family and know that Ralph and I are looking forward to having the most amazing, joyous Christmas of our lives as we welcome our first grandchild into our world.

November 18, 2009

One month from today people, one month from today! And what, you may ask is one month from today. Well, that would be Trish's due date! Can you believe it? I am going to see my first grandbaby in a month. I already know that it will be beautiful and talented, what I don't know is will it have hair and how much will it weigh and oh yeah, is it a boy or a girl!

The due date is the 18th, Nannie is flying in on the 19th .......will she/he wait? Well, we will just have to wait and see.

I can't get on Facebook today. It won't let me login. It has made me realize how addicted I am to the site. I feel "cut off" from everyone. Isn't that silly as I only joined it like a year ago. Trish had put a picture up there of her and her 35 week belly and the baby's crib that I wanted to put up here but I can't get into Facebook to get it ......darn.

Okay, must go, I got a movie that I rented that I need to watch.

Hello everyone

Just realized that it has been awhile since I have updated this blog. Sorry....time seems to get away from me. I went to the library today. When I signed out my books the librarian said that they were due on December 6th and it just hit me. I thought "Oh my God, that is just twelve days before the baby is due." I can hardly believe that it is almost time. Ralph and I are getting so anxious.
I am scheduled to fly up to Toronto on the 19th of December. The baby's due date is the 18th but I have a feeling that it is going to wait for Nannie to get there. What a Christmas it is going to be. Not only the first one that Trish has spent away from "home" but the first one for our grandbaby. I have asked for and received some very special gifts at Christmas over the years but this is no doubt the best gift I have ever received.
Ralph is coming up on the 23rd and we will both fly home on the 27th. We will miss having Christmas with San and Andrew but next year hopefully all of us (baby included) will be able to be together.
Ralph has been keeping busy since retirement. As a matter of fact he says that some days he is even busier than when he worked :-)
Ralph and I went to see the 3D version of Jim Carrey's "The Christmas Carol" last night. Ralph said that he hoped we would not be the only adults there....we weren't . Really nice weather here in N.S. for the last week. Today was up to about 13 degrees but foggy and misty.
Well, I must close as I have to go up and check my roast chicken that we are having for supper.

Trip to Ontario

Back from our trip to Ontario. It was a quick trip but we had a good time. Driving was great, no problems except for a bit of construction in Montreal that slowed us down. It was great to see Trish and Joe and see the bump that is the Baby. Trish and I had fun buying a few little things for the baby. The sweater is made of Alpaca wool and we got that at a craft show we went to. Ralph had to buy the stuffed dog because it looks like Jake. Trish is going to call it Jake. We saw the Santa outfit and could not resist it especially with the baby expecting to be born just the week before Christmas.

We had to put the Santa outfit on the Dog to see how it would fit the baby :-) As you can see Trish found it quite hilarious.

Drove home through the States. Stayed overnight in Albany, New York and Bangor. Did a bit of shopping but not a whole lot. Lots of people from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick at the hotel in Bangor.
Well, must go. Lots to do today. Back to work and reality tomorrow. Going to be hard to get up after sleeping in for a week.

A Happy Belated Thanksgiving

I would have written this blog earlier but I was so busy getting ready for the Thanksgiving Dinner that I didn't have time. :-)
Now, that the celebration is over and I have had time to reflect I do have a few thoughts about the holiday. For many years Thanksgiving was a long weekend that gave us the opportunity to go home (Baccaro) for the weekend. Thanksgiving dinner was a hectic meal in Mom and Dad's small house with the whole family there. It was a lot about family and I don't think so much about thanks.
Now with Mom and Dad gone and the family not assembling for holidays it is just Ralph and I and this year San and Andrew. What I came to realize this year is that no matter how small the gathering it is the getting together that is important. Sure, the turkey and trimmings are great but it is the chance to laugh and remember with your family that is so important.
I have so much to be thankful for not just on Thanksgiving but every day. Ralph and I are both healthy, we are able to do what we want, our kids are in loving relationships and we are going to be first time grandparents. So, we don't have a mansion or a million dollars, I bet our blessings are as great as those of millionaires. Everyone, take time, look around you and count the blessings that you have. You will be surprised about how well off you are.

Ya Gotta Love Nova Scotia

Please take a second to go to this link. http://thechronicleherald.ca/ Scroll down a little bit and look at the editorial cartoon on the right. This was the Editorial Cartoon in our local paper today. I laughed so much when I saw it that I just had to share it. Little background....one day this week we had a professor of Physics here in Nova Scotia win the Nobel Prize for Physics on the front page and then the next day we had a man from Carleton Village who got up in the middle of the night and went out of his house "naked" and shot at the rowdy four-wheelers who were tearing around his property. So the saying, "It takes all kinds, is certainly true here" :-)

Rained hard here the last few days but at least it's not snow like they have out West. Ralph got home from South Branch today and is now at Curling. I'm looking forward to my trip to Ontario. It looks pretty sure that the Faculty at the College are going to go out on strike. It won't affect me I will still have to work but it is still a sad situation all around.

Changes to the Looks of my Blog

So I got tired of the look of my blog and decided to change the colours and layout. I think that this looks more "Fall like" don't you? Got my Fall wreath back up on the door. I swear...I just take that thing down and I'm putting it back up again. Where does the time go?

Here is a couple of pictures from the last get together at Jean's. I need to explain the one picture. Well, when we got there Carol and Flo showed Ralph a picture from the Truro paper that was taken when he was up there for some ceremony or other with the Air Force Association. The group of men were outside on parade and there was a flyover. Just as the photographer took the picture Ralph is looking straight up in the air. Needless to say that was the joke of the day so everytime someone shouted "Truro look" the fools would all look up in the sky. Notice that Mom and Carol are not playing along with the other four :-)

I just heard the garage door so that means Ralph is home from curling which means that it is time I got off this computer. Talk at you later.

Get together in South Branch

Ralph and I went up to the Branch last night and I took my new video camera. Dangerous combination....me and a video camera around that bunch :-) Here is one video, this one was taken with Mom and you can see who and all was there except for myself, Carolyn and Sarah who were not in the video. They were all being a bit silly don't you think? I am typing away as I wait for the video to upload. I have a bad feeling that it is not going to work.

Well, I don't believe it, it actually uploaded. I have tried to upload video before to this blog and it just would not work. We had a great time last night. Mom was in good spirits except she found it hard to hear with Flo, Mary, Clearance and Ralph laughing and talking. We had a spaghetti dinner and of course Ralph and I bought home a few cinnamon buns, Thanks Mary! Ralph is at an executive meeting at his new Legion branch tonight. He is busy everyday with this and that so I guess this retirement business will work out okay. Four more years for me before retirement hits. Enjoy the video I will put up some pictures I took last night in the next update. I don't dare push my luck and try to upload both video and pictures to this posting. Take care and enjoy.

Rosie O'Donnell

I always liked Rosie. Didn't get to see her t.v. show that often but when I did I really liked it. When Trish and I took our trip to New York we got to tour her studio where she taped the show but of course she was not there. Anyways....as you may or may not know, Rosie's mother died of Breast Cancer when she was I think about 11 years old. She has never gotten over it. She was not aware that her mother was dying, one day she was there and the next she wasn't. She has never gotten over that. So sad. Here is what she said on her blog recently.

Love loss and what i wore

Kind of Blue
By Rosie O'Donnell

The truth is, I have no fashion sense—never did. For many years, I blamed this on my mom’s death. Then again, I blame pretty much everything on that—my weight, my addiction to television, my inability to spell.
In my fantasy world, had my mother lived, I would be thin. I would be extremely well dressed and I would never need spell-check. I would know what went with what, and everything I tried on would fit. Mom and I would shop together at the places that moms and daughters go—a department store, an outlet mall, the flea market. I would wear a lot of tasteful makeup, too. And I’d know how to pick out a bag—a purse, a pocketbook, whatever. It could all be so different. My mom and I would lunch someplace while shopping. It would be at a cafĂ© where we would have salad and like it. We’d laugh about how great our lives turned out and make plans for all the things we were still going to do.
But that is all a dream, because my mother did not live. She died when she was younger than I am today.
The fact is that no item of clothing has ever moved me in any way—except one. After my mom died, all her clothes were removed from the house while my dad took his five motherless children to Belfast, Ireland. It was 1973. I guess he thought we could best recover from the trauma of her death by living in a war zone. The IRA was nowhere near as scary as what had just happened to our lives. When we returned, we found her side of the closet barren. The last of her was gone.
In 1981 or 1982, my dad got remarried to a lovely woman. She was a schoolteacher named Mary May. After the wedding, she moved in. That first morning she was there, I was eating breakfast with a few of my siblings when my new stepmom walked down the stairs and into the kitchen. She was wearing a long mauve velour three-quarter-sleeve zip bathrobe with a thick vertical white stripe down the center surrounding the zipper. No one said a word. We all looked at one another as Mary happily made her way to the stove to put on the kettle.
My mother had had the same exact bathrobe—in blue. Electric blue. What are the chances of that, really? The unspoken rule in my house was that my mom’s name was never mentioned after her death. But that morning, I knew the rule was about to be broken. My siblings silently left the kitchen. I was alone with Mary. Sensitive to the fact that this was her first day as a married woman, I was unsure of how to phrase it.
“Ummm,” I said. Always a great way to start. “Ummmm…Mary. My mom had that same bathrobe in blue.”
“Oh,” she said and nodded.
And that robe disappeared. Gone. Never to be seen again. Sent away to the same place my mother’s clothes went, I assume. No one ever mentioned it.
To this day, that bathrobe is the only piece of clothing I can actually see in my mind. I have no visuals of prom dresses or favorite sweaters or shoes I couldn’t live without. Clothes are just something I use for cover, leaving room for one electric blue memory.

I read this and then I read the following message that was posted to her from a mother who is right now dying from cancer. It broke my heart to read this but it makes me glad to realize that one person's words (Rosie's) could affect another person's life for the better.

jackie Writes:

Thank u Ro, for that story about yr Mom.
I am dying.
Bcus of u + what you have taught me
these last few yrs, my 8 yo daughter will not live thru that.I have journals,
presents, pics, flip vids

A chilly September evening

Wow....when Fall hits, it really hits. Had to turn the heat on in the house today. Really chilly. I guess tomorrow will be the same. We had a "humidex" put in our basement yesterday. It functions like a dehumidifier but it vents outside so never has to be emptied. Our house has become so full of humidity this summer, the air exchanger is just not cutting it. We have a pad of paper here beside the computer that felt damp all the time and that at least tonight is feeling dry.

I have started having real bad allergies this summer. I sneeze and sneeze when I get up in the morning. I'm hoping the humidex will help with that also. The picture I put up was taken last Sunday on our front lawn and the harbour picture is Halls Harbour up in the valley on the Bay of Fundy. Obviously the famous Fundy tide was out when this picture was taken.

Getting excited about going up to see Trish and Joe in October. Can't wait to see the "baby belly". :-) Ralph is enjoying his retirement so far. Of course he worked for the first two months of it but he is settling into it now. Well, must go. Will check in again soon.

My daughter's wedding dress

Well....an exciting evening here in old Hammonds Plains. San bought a wedding dress yesterday and she bought it out tonight to model for me. She looks beautiful in it and she is really happy with it so what more can you want.

I am so surprised that she found one so easily. I thought that we would be looking for months but no she went yesterday to a sale with one of her friends and there it was. So one big thing done for the wedding. The day is July 24, 2010 so we have lots of time to do everything else now.

Sandra, my niece Donna and I are going to take a trip to New York next May. Just a last time for me to take my daughter away before she becomes a Cranmer. We are going to sightsee, shop, eat and try and get into one of the t.v. shows being taped there.

Speaking of daughters, we must not forget my "pregnant" daughter Trish :-) Ralph and I are going to go up to see Trish and Joe in October. Ralph will attend a convention in Trenton and I will go up to Trish's in Toronto. Ralph will join us on the Sunday and we will stay with them until Wednesday and then we are going to drive back home through the States. Might do some Christmas shopping (no, not just for the baby).

Having beautiful weather this week again. August and September have been beautiful here in Halifax. I guess someone is trying to make up to us for the terrible June and July weather. It sure is getting chilly at night though. I always have to put on a hoodie by 8:00 p.m. especially if I am down here in the basement on the computer.

Take care everyone, have a good rest of the week. I guess some of you have had to get up earlier again now with the kids back in school. I don't have that problem as I have to get up early all year around :-)

My Birds

Well....I guess I haven't told you about my bird family. It's a story so here we go. I always hang plants on either side of my front door and usually they do well. Doing well means they usually last the summer. Well not this year. We had so much rain in June and July that I think it drowned my plants. The first ones that I put in died pretty quickly so I went out and bought some new ones...impatiens this time, as I have never killed an impatien plant, inside or outside. So much for that theory.. One day I go out and there they are.....DEAD.

Okay. So I put my hand up into the hanging plant (which is above my head because I am just a fat little woman) and what flys out but a bird (don't ask me what kind, all I know is that she makes a clicking sound). Well, I thought, this can't be right, so I called Ralph out of the house and had him look in the plant which he could do because of his superior height. He reached up and brought it down to show me the nest with eggs that was making a home in the planter.

The babies have hatched. So since we have known that the babies are there we have been trying not to use the front door or bother the babies and Mom in any way. I have been so worried this week about the babies because of the high temperatures that we have been having. I put a bowl with some water out on the ledge of the doorstep so Mom could take water to the babies (not that I know if that could happen or not) and Ralph came home today and said that the babies are much bigger so they survived the weather. This is a video that San took on Sunday when she was out. Watch the baby open its' mouth thinking the camera is food.

Happy Birthday to Me

Well, here it is the day of my 56th birthday. It is difficult for me to even believe that I am that old. I know that everyone says it but I feel no different than I did when it was say my 26th, 36th or 46th birthday. What are the good things about turning 56?
Well, for one I am here to celebrate it in reasonably good health, with all of my family in good health and looking forward to seeing my first grandchild. I have friends and family who were not fortunate enough to even turn 56 so I am thankful for that.
Another good thing is that it puts me closer to the time when I can say good-by to paid work and do every day only what I want to do.
I am much clearer in my mind as to what is important in life. Trying to impress others, letting other's opinions influence what I do and say more than my own.....all of that is behind me. I am confident that I know what is good for me and I don't really listen to other's advice.
So many things that seemed important when younger no longer seem that way. Simple pleasures such as good food, music, good company and a good book are what I enjoy these days.
I will end this post by saying that I will post again next August 16th with my 57 year old thoughts.

Sidney Crosby and the Stanley Cup

Well, so much excitement here in Halifax last Friday. Sidney Crosby, captain of the Pittsburg Penguins and son of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia bought the Stanley Cup to his hometown with a parade. Ralph and Trish were able to take it in but I had to work so I missed it, but here are some pictures.

Where has the summer gone

We wait so long for summer here in Canada and then it is here and gone so quickly. Once summer started here in Halifax it was hot and sticky. Lots of fog and rain and humidity. Add hot flashes and a sore hip and sciatica on top of that and poor Ralph has had to put up with a cranky wife :-)

Speaking of Ralph, he has only two weeks left in Debert. He has enjoyed working with the Cadets I do believe as it put him back working in Finance. It has been a little rough having him gone every week but we have managed. I have put up some pictures of Ralph in his fishing kyack that was part of his retirement gift. He loves it.

My baby girl and her husband left yesterday to go home to Toronto. We wait so long for their two week vacation and it comes and goes so fast. I have posted pictures of her baby shower that we had while she was here. I know it is early but it is the last time she will be home before the baby comes, which is December 18th by the way. It is still so hard to believe especially because Trish isn't really showing yet. Ralph and I are going up to see her in October and at that time she will be seven months so maybe it will look more real then.

The humidity has lifted here and it is quite comfortable outside. Funny story....I was out on the front doorstep yesterday looking at the two dead plants hanging on either side of the front door. I couldn't believe that I had killed two more hanging plants. This makes six this year :-) Anyways, I reached up to stick my finger in the pot (trying to ascertain that the reason they died was that the soil was not draining properly from all the rain) and when to my surprise and I am sure to her's too, a small swallow flew up out of the planter. She then sat in the nearest tree in the front yard and started scolding me. Ralph came out, lifted the plant down and lo and behold there was a nest with four eggs in it. We gently put it back, and went in and closed the door. After about five minutes Mom came back, perched on the railing for a minute (to make sure that human was gone), and then flew back in the nest. I guess that we will be using the garage door for the next while.

Guess that is all for now. Hope everyone is having a great summer. Will check in again soon.

What's with this weather??

Okay, I know that it is not just me who is fed up with the weather that we have had this summer. I use the word summer very loosely as we have not had a summer yet this year. Here is a video that I just took of my back deck at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2009. Cindy Day, our local weather person said tonight on the local news that we have had six, six, that's six, days with no rain in the month of July. Not only rain, but we have had cool temperatures. It was only 15 degrees today. Every window is down in the house and it's JULY. The chairs out back have not had cushions on them much let me tell you.

On top of the shitty weather, I have had bursitis in my hip for about three weeks now. I'm doing physio, taking anti-inflammatories and whatever but it is really getting aggravating to not be able to walk. I have to really talk myself into going to the grocery store because by the time I walk around the store and stand at the cash I am really in bad shape when I get back to the car. Oh well, enough of that, there are a lot of people suffering more than that.

Good news...Trish and Joe are coming home. They leave Whitby tomorrow and will arrive here on Sunday. I am praying that the weather gets better for them. One year from today and almost right at this moment (7:00 p.m.) San and Andrew will be standing up in front of family and friends as they exchange their marriage vows. And just think, at the wedding will be my seven month old grandchild :-) Well, must go. I have got my anger about the weather out so now can go and enjoy the rest of my evening :-)

This and That in July

So, here is my niece Donna and my sister Velvet and of course Ralph waiting to hear Paul Brandt and Reba at the Cavendish Beach Music Festival on Sunday, July 12th. The four of us descended on Flo and Fred on Friday, the 10th and we had a wonderful two days at the cottage and on the water before going to the Festival on Sunday afternoon. The weather was good which we were glad about as it has been such a bad summer so far, at least weather wise.

Looking forward to Trish being home again. She and Joe will drive down this time for their annual summer holiday. We are going to have a baby shower for her while she is here as it will be the only opportunity.

I have been suffering from a flare-up of siatica for the last week and a half. I am on an anti-inflammatory medication now so I am feeling a bit better. I start Physio next week and I hope that it helps this time.

Ralph came home last night and left again this morning. He will be home tomorrow night for the weekend. It is strange having him gone every week. It surely puts our summer plans on hold. We are going to be taking our holidays later in the year although we are going to be able to go to the Beaver Dam cottage for a long weekend in August.

Another Hump Day

Where do the weeks go? Here it is another Wednesday. Ralph is home for the night. He will go back to Debert tomorrow morning. I'm not too keen on this husband coming home for the weekends and one night through the week but what can you do.

Check out this video on YouTube. It is by a Halifax group called the Sons of Maxwell. The lead singer had one of his guitars damaged by United Airline handlers on a flight from Halifax to Nebraska and this was his way to get back at the airline when they would do nothing about the damage. It's funny and quite good. Good for them they are getting lots of hits on YouTube and they were featured on CNN. Apparently they have been contacted by United now to try to work something out :-)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YGc4zOqozo ( Copy and paste into your browser).

The sun did not come out again today even though the weather person promised it would. It is very cool also. Only got up to 14 today. Ralph, Donna, Velvet and I are going to P.E.I. on the weekend to attend the Cavendish Beach Music Festival on Sunday. Guess what it is going to be doing on P.E.I. on Sunday? You got it....rain. Oh well, what can you do. You can't fight Mother Nature. If this weather is what we are going to have then this is what we are going to have.
Going to leave you with a little joke.

Bar-be-que (bar*bi*q) n. You bought the groceries, washed the lettuce, chopped the tomatoes, diced the onions, marinated the meat and cleaned everything up, but, he, "made the dinner."

Some Sunday Musings

Well, since my last blog was all about my new grandchild I guess that I had better talk about other topics in this blog or you guys will get sick of hearing about the grandchild pretty quickly :-)

Another cloudy, muggy day in Nova Scotia. I have lost count of how long it has been since it didn't rain at some point through the day and even how long it has been since we saw the sun here in Halifax. So far we have had a miserable, rotten summer weather wise. I am glad that I am not one of those who has already taken their holidays.

Just got off the phone with Ralph. He came home Friday night from Debert and went back this morning. We have decided that this is the first and last time that he will do this summer camp. We have no time together to do anything and we can't have a summer vacation so it is just not worth it.

He is going to be able to go to the Island with Velvet, Donna and I this weekend...we were not sure for a while that he would be able to get the time off. We are going to be staying at Flo's and going to see Reba MacIntyre on Sunday. It is an outdoor concert at Cavendish Beach. We are praying that the weather will co-operate.

The big concert here in Halifax next weekend...Paul McCartney. We went downtown yesterday and saw them sitting up the stage. It is huge. I hope they get a good turnout but I think that it will depend on the weather.

The picture is of our new flower garden that Ralph made in the front of the house. He did all the work and I told him what to put in and where :-) Good team really :-)

I am going to be a Grandmother!!!!!

I'm sure that all of you in the family have heard by now that I am going to be a Grandmother. Oh, and Ralph is going to be a Grandfather also :-) Trish and Joe are expecting their first child on December 18th. Up to now, the best Christmas present I have ever had for sure. As you would expect I am very excited, proud and can't wait for the birth.

At the same time I am worried. Worried, you say, but why? Well, I have been talking about being a grandmother for so long, in fact some people may say that I have been whining about it. What if I don't do a good job? I don't know how to be a good grandmother. I didn't know how to be a mother either actually, I just winged it. The girls tell me I did okay but they may just be saying that. All I know that I will be able to do is love this little one unconditionally. I will be looking at baby's little face to see if I can see any resemblance to anyone in my birth family as I am sure Ralph, Irene and Bob will be doing. We don't know what he/she will look like, or act like, whether he/she will love ice cream like my Mom did or if they will love to fish like the maternal grandfather or tat like the maternal great-grandmother. Maybe he/she will get the "Smart" genes and become the next Prime Minister of Canada.

So many possibilities are open to this little one and so many people waiting to meet and love him/her.

Trish sent us an email to tell us she was pregnant. I saw the first picture of my grandchild in an email so I guess that it is only fitting that the first words that I write about this child would be on the Internet. I will keep you up to date of course on how things are going with the baby but just a few words about another important event in the Murphy's life. Ralph has officially retired from the Canadian Armed Forces after 39 years and 8 months. We had quite the party on Saturday. Thanks to everyone who was there and those who sent their best wishes.

I think that this post has gone on long enough. Hope that your weather is a lot better this summer than ours has been here in N.S.

Good-bye Facebook, I'm back blogging!

Well.....I logged on to Facebook yesterday and realized as I scrolled through what seemed to be mindless information about my friends, (do I really care how many points someone got in a foolish game of Movie Trivia?), I realized that Facebook has become something that just annoys me instead of being fun as it used to be. So, I deactivated my Facebook account and if anyone wants to know what is going on with me and mine you will have to check out this blog. It will not be updated daily but I promise I will try and update at least once a week.
That is all for this first post as it is a beautiful March day out and I have clothes to hang, a baby blanket to crochet (no, not for any of mine but for a neighbour, lol) and then I have a bit of shopping to do.
Talk to you again soon.

Hello in February

I won't apologize this time for being gone so long. I am trying to decide if anyone reads this blog that doesn't keep up with my daily life on Facebook. However, going on the notion that there is at least one person out there eagerly hanging on and waiting for my next post here, I will try and update this again on a regular basis.
So, it has been a hell of a winter here in Nova Scotia. Lots of cold, lots of snow and lots of people who wished they lived in Florida :-) We are in the midst of another storm as I type. Ralph and I were let out of work early so thankfully we beat the worst of the driving home on the messy roads. Right now Ralph is out with the snowblower and Jake is out on the back deck rolling in the snow (he loves the snow).
We are all doing well down here other than the terrible winter. Ralph has been travelling a lot but he is home now until mid March. He is going to really, really retire on June 13th. Big retirement bash here in Halifax sometime this summer. Will put more details on here as I get them. Ralph and I still plan to retire in Barrington but it will not be until I retire which is September 2013.
Oh, I know the big news! Ralph and I are going to Honolulu, Hawaii on February 23rd. Just for a week but I can't wait. We will be staying on Waikiki Beach and hope to visit Pearl Harbour, volcanos, and take a helicopter tour of the Islands , and of course a luau. I had better start practicing my ukulele :-) Well everyone, bye for now. I will be back on the weekend. Take care.
